The Valley kaasht have only one breed-specific city to their name, a massive structure of stone and metal they call Ri Eevuu. It's name litereally means "yes city", a silly name that defies its un-city-like nature but suits the its sole purpose. Ri Eevuu, located just south of the strip of land that connects Mirran and Weskain, is little more than a target for whatever kaasht happen to be angry at Valley kaasht at any given time. It is settled just where the plains, mountains, forests, and deserts meet, close to the shoreline, conviniently located within easy range of attack from almost every breed of kaasht. As a Valley kaasht's mischievious nature tends to offend kaasht of other breeds, they came up with the ridiculus but still funny idea of giving those other breeds a place to vent their anger. Ri Eevuu has been destroyed and rebuilt so many times since its foundation that Valley kaasht no longer keep track of the number. At each rebuilding, the city's defenses get more complex. The city itself looks like a ludicrously over-sized foretress, surrounded by four layers of walls, each growing taller as they approach the city itself, which is perched on the top of a small hill. Those walls are all connected by a maze of lower walls, a place where many a Valley kaasht has found entertainment watching friends or enemies trying to make their way to the city proper. As Ri Eevuu is always being attacked and often being destroyed, it is full of escape routes. Most of the buildings have a hidden cellar and multiple tunnels escape the city in any direction imaginable. The mazes make for perfect hiding places, as well, being full of traps, hidden chambers, enchanted gardens, and the like. Within the fourth wall is the city, which, given the immensity of the walls and mazes protecting it, is pitifully small. There are enough buildings, mainly residences, to house just over three hundred kaasht, and over half of these are kept empty unless a Valley clan is taking shelter from persecution or in case refugees of other breeds need a place to recover. The streets are nearly as difficult to navigate as the mazes surrounding the city, but Valley kaasht don't mind. The few non-residential buildings in Ri Eevuu include the singule market, located in the very center of the city, the theatre, just south of the market, and the temple of the Jester, just north of the market. Ri Eevuu is mostly empty, though every Valley clan knows where it is and nearby clans visit every once in a while. The city's true inhabitents make up one clan, named Chaamraa Cuuros or "Jester Brother", that hovers around a hundred Valley kaasht in size, most of whom specialize in illusion and defense. These kaasht watch over the city, repell attacks, and shelter any kaasht of any breed who asks for it. The clan itself is relatively fluid, as members are always coming, wanting to learn the advanced trickery involved in guarding the city or in search of a safe place to stay, and going, leaving with refugees or looking for something new and exciting out in the big, wide world. Whenever the clan reaches one hundred and fifty, however, they send away half their number to start a new clan. There are no rulers in Ri Eevuu, no political offices, and no police force. Major decisions are made based on simple democratic vote, as such is easy enough given the relatively small size of the clan, but otherwise things run pretty well without elders or heirachies of power. Occasionally a kaasht or two will show more leadership tendencies, but kaasht of their nature usually leave to lead another clan or are sent away before they get too power-hungry. There is also no rule about using abilities within the city walls, as ability use is not only not dangerous among the ever-cheerful Valley kaasht, but essential to the protection of the city. During times of peace, when no kaasht are interested in attacking Ri Eevuu, the kaasht of Chaamraa Cuuros keep themselves on their nonexistant toes by inviting friendly clans to try and solve their mazes or launch mock-attacks on the walls. These playing clans are usually made up of Valley kaasht, who love the chance for a good time, but sometimes they are interested Cave kaasht, Mountain kaasht, Sky kaasht, or Beach kaasht. Plateaus are usually not invited, despite, or perhaps due to, their intense curiosity about Ri Eevuu. |
