Taathaneev is located across the lake from the all-kaasht city of Alcaine. It is primarily a trade city with a surprisingly fluid population for the normally stationary Mountain kaasht: merchants come and go and travellers stop and leave again. Due to its proximity to Alcaine and its central location on the continent, Taathaneev also has the largest population of non-Mountain kaasht of all the Mountain kaasht cities. The two largest numbers are of Mountains and Beaches, the two breeds being nearly equal in numbers, though there is a sizable population of all other sociable breeds, as well. Very few goods actually originate in Taathaneev. The city is mainly a stopping location for trade caravans and merchants in other parts of the world, where they exchange goods or pick up supplies. It was originally a way-station specifically for Mountain kaasht merchants on their way to Alcaine, and simply grew from there as Alcaine itself grew. It can be said to be a Mountain-specific offshoot of Alcaine, though Mountain and non-Mountain residents of the city alike will hotly debate the subject, preferring to think that their home grew of its own merit rather than Alcaine's. True to it's name, which loosely means "tooth city", the main commodity of Taathaneev is teeth and claws. Taathaneev is where the first and only official bank of Tryne originated and where some of the richest kaasht in the world live-- and not just rich Mountains, either. Kaasht of means from Mountain, Beach, Valley, Cave, even Plains kaasht make their homes in Taathaneev. The high society in Taathaneev is alive and flourishing, with grand balls, rampant gambling, and literally wild philosophical debates. Of course, lower levels of society exist, as well, though they are mainly merchants and those who work for them, or employees of the rich. Taathaneev is a large, sprawling city, not nearly as orderly as Duuskeev but not as haphazard as Maaxeev. It is circular, much like Alcaine, and walled, though the walls are low and meant more for show and to deter theives than for actual protection. The center of the city is reserved for those in power, generally Mountain or Beach kaasht but with other breeds allowed to serve a term or two, as well. Just around that are the estates of the richer and more prominent merchant families, often with extensive grounds and extravagant gardens. This two sectors together make up what is commonly called the Inner City. In the next ring, often called the Middle City, separated from the central territory by another low wall, live the estate servants and merchant assistants. Beyond them live the lower merchants and the bankers, also part of the Middle City. This is also where the major shops of Taathaneev are and where the First Bank of Tryne has its primary branch. The Middle City also holds major theatrical houses and gambling houses. The Outer City, separated by another wall, is where the common merchants and general workers of the city live. Here are also inns for travellers and warehouses for merchandise waiting to be picked up. With so many teeth and claws floating about and so many rich and careless kaasht running around, security in Taathaneev is tight. It is modelled after security in Alcaine, with the same ranks of guards, but there are far more guards in Taathaneev than there are in Alcaine. The offense of causing a ruckus is often unpunished except by a good dunking in the lake, but theivery is taken very seriously. No ability may be used in the Outer City except for Recognize or those used by the guards. In the Middle City, only kaasht with permits, usually merchants or actors, may use abilities. In the Inner City ability use is limited to guards when on public streets, though inside the manors themselves anything goes. |
